In Conversation With: Reshmi Patel, Key Sounds UK

This month, we sat down with Reshmi Patel of Key Sounds UK to learn more about how she’s using Bobbin to run better lessons.

It was great to get her feedback as the owner of a piano and music theory tutoring company that’s growing fast to keep up with demand.

You can watch the full interview above or take a look at our key takeaways here.

Faster reporting means more precious time for planning ahead

Reshmi found that using Bobbin not only made writing lesson reports quicker, but the quality was better too. Tutors have been saving 40 minutes a day on average, which means they have more precious time to plan ahead rather than writing up their notes.

They always want tutors to give detailed reports, and Bobbin does just this, showing what’s been covered and student engagement in a format that’s ready to be tailored to each student and parent.

Favourite feature: Being able to edit the reports to tailor them to parents.

Bobbin is making teaching online more fluid

The difference between Bobbin and Zoom, the previous platform they used, is how easy it is to upload and change between PDF’s and images. You no longer have to stop sharing and restart mid-lesson, saving time and keeping lessons smooth.

There’s also more freedom to hide tabs and choose what you’re sharing with students. This is great for protecting sensitive information and also makes life so much easier for tutors in online lessons.

Better oversight of student progress helps tailor learning

With Bobbin’s lesson reports, tutors are able to see the strengths and weaknesses of students at a glance. Especially for group classes and for students moving up to more difficult classes, this is really helpful for getting tutors up to speed with student progress. They do regular calls with parents and now feel like they’d never run out of things to say!

Reshmi says: “I've never even thought of the report being that detailed with the strengths and weaknesses. I just didn't think it was possible, if I'm honest.”

Parents love seeing student engagement

And parents benefit from better reporting too. Reshmi told us that parents are loving seeing more detail on how their child is doing in lessons. It really helps people who aren’t musical to understand the progress their child is making by laying out clearly what's been covered week on week.

Plus, they can guide their child based on their reports on what they should be going over again at home. It helps to strengthen that triangle of teacher, parent, and Reshmi herself, to be stronger and more aligned.

Engagement is a part of safeguarding

Given that young people don’t always know how to express difficult topics and emotions, engagement becomes an important part of safeguarding. Bobbin helps flag any changes in students’ behaviour, like being more withdrawn in lessons, giving tutors a chance to check in. You then have the transcript to look back on too, giving you that extra layer of visibility and protection.

And finally, when asked 'what would you say to someone considering Bobbin', Reshmi told us:

“Based on the research we’ve done on other platforms, it’s the best quality platform you can get. Not just for what you receive but the cost. It’s definitely worth the value, and if it’s going to improve retention, then I don’t think it’s even a question.”

You can try Bobbin for yourself today! The platform is now available for TutorCruncher customers and will be live for everyone from September. Log in to TutorCruncher or sign up to our waitlist to find out more.
